Did you make plans as far as the order? I know probably 60% of these, and some are available on DVD here, quite a few, actually...

There are quite a few that are based on inside Soviet folklore, and I doubt will translate well, but hey, it still makes sense to try them!

Where are you starting?

Already......Heart Of A Dog, Gray Wolves, (12 hours of) 17 Moments......... wonderful! Color Of Pomegranates, The Thief, Brat 2, The Gipsy Herd, Black Square.

    So much to choose.......

Film is visual, emotional. Thinking comes later.

Вas there Brat on the list?, posted on February 2, 2010 at 06:47:12

Brat 2 is much inferior to the first one... not to say that the Brat was a fine movie, but it is a cult "classic"... The actor died in a freak on location incident - their whole crew disappeared in an avalanche in mountains.

Don't know what Grey Wolves is.

  • Thanks, Af, but when I tried watching that first one, posted on February 2, 2010 at 08:02:08

weeks ago, I kept clicking on the wrong sequel and it would take a minute or two to realize that it wasn't just a quirky jump cut. Took the fun out of it. I wish the episodes were numbered, somehow. They just don't load in order, or at least that film didn't.
    Thanks for this list!

....is far more orderly. I have yet to find a film where "parcels" are not numbered sequentially.

Having to see a film as a "serial" is a bit unwieldy but better that than no film, I think.

Brat is there........, posted on February 2, 2010 at 09:34:42

And you're right, Brat 2 is a comparatively inferior film but it has is moments. Interesting to watch in light of the tragic deaths you mention.

    Brat is below.

The Gray Wolves is an "insider" docudrama look at the events leading up to the overthrow of Khrushchev and the installation of Breshnev. I didn't know the story so it was interesting to see this history come alive no matter the rather wooden production.

Well, they ARE numbered... just not too clearly, posted on February 2, 2010 at 10:04:24

There are two parts to Heart of a Dog, and there are seven segments to each part. First number - the part, then there is segment X of 7.

  • Got it! I was looking for "Brat"., posted on February 2, 2010 at 10:28:47

Move Beware of Automobile to the top of your list, it is a very nice film.

  • Oh yeah, especially if it means none of these Russian gems! Thanks to Vic and you. nt, posted on February 2, 2010 at 17:20:52
