its length overtaxes the material: the editor must have lost his notebook because there's a frightening amount of repetition. Still, any Dylan fan will relish the interviews of Bob, his contemporaries, and critics--- and the narrative by the man himself is invaluable. The performances? Many are sensational. You'd think that Scorsese and Dylan would make for a truly landmark film but it doesn't approach those expectations. It is stylistically straight ahead and there are few surprises, few interviews with those that might give different insights or perhaps tarnish the halo. But for a real fan, those are quibbles: a few hours of Dylan is good enough for me. |
