Well... not just myself. A friend made a case for it, so my wife wanted to see it. Being a sucker for any sci-fi, I went along - fortunately, we didn't have to put down any coin to see it. :)

Rarely have we stepped into such a monumental pile of dreck. We both kept yawning, longing for the promised unexpected ending... which never came. We both tried to keep our disappointments to ourselves, but our bodies twitched uncontrollably, betraying our deep uncomfortable feelings. Hey, this might be just like the root canal, with a relief at the end, our bodies kept saying. Alas...

What made this experience so much more painful, was the fact that just the night before we watched The Day the Earth Stood Still. 1951, but handily beat the proverbial crap out of this latest marvel on all levels... not to mention the female lead.

Thanks havens for free videos! Too bad they don't pay us for bad experiences!

I was going to post something similar but damn if I could express it nearly as good. Add to this an eternal complex of being too much of a simpleton to grasp the true message and complexity. Was there any?
Ever thought of being a film critic? By all means employ your wife too :)

Ever since the advent of sci-fi the writers tried to outsmart each other in their descriptions of aliens.

The most obvious once included all sorts of human-like figures, with huge eyes, no ears, heads, mounted sideways... but still largely human figures.

Others went their totally outside of the box routine, with forms of life... or should we say - intelligence - in a shape of a swarm of little flies, a cross-like creatures and even an ocean.

Hollywood, being forever stupid, stuck with its only plausible form - flesh eating monsters. Good enough for rednecks.

All that represented the search for something new, interesting... something that would spur your imagination.

Until now we finally have two tree stumps, two handicapped octopuses with one tentacle missing, but with the ink bladder still intact.

If you hurry you can buy a BD copy for 22.95 at Target. Or...wait a few months and buy same disk in the five dollar bin. At that point I'll buy. Mainly because I wonder if there might be a case for including this film within the pantheon of meaningful sci-fi fliks.

Except, I've only seen it once in the theater and can't remember if there actually is a case to be made for inclusion within the group of memorable sci-fi fliks.

Perhaps we could group this film - Arrival alongside Interstellar and have a double feature some night when there is absolutely 'nothing' else to watch and in the mood for something depressing yet forgetable. ;-)

Hi,
Victor was so right! I learned a new word too, dreck. It must mean (It sucks).
The only positive thing about this movie is the deep low alien sounds you get from using a sub-woofer. I rented the dvd. My favorite and only video shop offers a dollar back if you return it early. I'm doing a Bob Hayes sprint to the store to get that buck back.
The movie works better than Sominex with a Nyquil shooter.
I didn't get it either. Maybe some people find boring very mind boggling.
Contact and Close Encounters are superb movies. This one is not!
Victor, I'm a big fan of any old 50's class b sci-fi flicks. Even the worst one is better than what I saw last night....Mark Korda
