Will be interesting to or hear how the Oppo compares with the much better value Sony X800

Yes, music. They heavily beefed up the analog output section. They both play CDs, SACDs, DVD-As, and HDCDs. I personally prefer dedicated player for music.

The new units will **play** CDs encoded with HDCD, but they won't decode the HDCD "bits."

I have an Oppo 103, which does have switchable HDCD, and I hear very little difference with HDCD decoding turned off. I think Charles Hansen pointed out in another forum here that many discs will turn on the HDCD indicator but don't actually use any of the HDCD features.
