Strongly recommend Blue Velvet!

One of the very best American movies of the last 20 years, IMO. If you enjoyed Mulholland Drive (I did) you'll *love* Blue Velvet - they're from the same cranny of Lynch's imagination. The Straight Story is good, but it's not the twisty thrill ride of BV or MH.

I'd also second The Twin Peaks series...as long as you realize that Lynch really didn't care about who killed Laura Palmer.

I do love Lynch's films, I've seen 'em all...I would rather see one of Lynch's failures than someone else's potboiler.

One of the highest compliments paid him was Brit director Peter Greenaway (Draughtman's Contract; Prospero's Books; The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover). When asked if he'd seen and liked Blue Velvet, Greenaway replied that BV was so good, he wished he'd made it himself. Just a thought...if you enjoyed MH, you might also try the films of Greenaway.
