This one was MY pick, so I can't blame it on my wife. Had the picture of beautiful Sophie Marceau on the cover, plus it was French... so what more would one need?
Well, how about a decent movie? This one is anything but. It is three hours of finest French merde, stupid and ridiculous. And beautiful Sophie making love with everyone, everywhere for the first hour and a half didn't help much either.
Stay away from this piece of boring trash... you can do whole lot better.
It almost made Hollywood films look good. Well, not something like the Mission Impossible, perhaps, but sub-garbage like Terms of Endearment or American Beauty - for sure.
Certainly they struggled to find an actor uglier than John Malkovich, with even less charisma... they must have searched through the whole of Europe... but they found him. Pascal Greggory is it.
Of course in this film he is surrounded by so many characters that are twisted, tortured, idiotic, that he is almost passable.
Funny enough, its director, Andrzej Zulawski, a student to none else but Andrzej Wajda, is highly regarded in some circles. They say Sophie played her best roles in his films... well, she looked completely fake in this one.
Stay away from this silliness...
