That is certainly a film you have to look twice, not only because the numbers of characters ( like a book, you have an option on the dvd to have all of the personnages and their relation to.)
The story as you should know by now ot the upstairs and downstair people, tragically mixed when the two encounter..
This picture is very good, and very very good played,only for that it is worth..I my point of view the film would have been an instant classic if the role of Stephen Fry ( the inspector ) had another devellopment, he is just plainly bad ( not the actor ) the intellectually just killed the charm that could have been...
Altman just try to hard to make an film at the antipode of Ivory / Christie...
Too bad ..we could have had the full fun of intelligence and comtenporain critical made up.
Still a real jewel.
