Whatever (fortunately) Killed Colourisation?

216.244.1.159

Mates,

I hate to tempt fate by speaking the Devil's name, but it has been some time since I last saw a black and white movie that had had colour added. This seemed to be quite commonly seen on TCM and elsewhere a few years ago and I assume that technology by now could have gotten this technique to be easy and automated.

Was there too much negative opinion of the silly, artificial results? Too labour and cost intensive?

I'm pleased that it more or less seems to be gone, but where did it go?

Cheers,

Bambi B

P.S. Farquad's castle/town named "Duloc" in the movie Shrek is an anagram for the word "Cloud." But why?
