Another Night at Indie

Last night was an Indie Night at Bravo. That made it watcheable, as the ratio of commercials to film dropped like a brick - I think they were running about three 30-second spots every ten minutes or so. Obviously their accountants figured out no one with money would watch that movies.
The movie was The Real Blonde, featuring once again in a short time Catherine Keener. The director Tom DiCillo made his great mark with the film I love a lot: Living in Oblivion.
The Blonde is not at the level of the Oblivion - that one had more sparkle to it, but it is one of those films that really has no irritants. There are no morons, no anti-social deviants, no artificial blood, no ray guns, no comics book heros. Just the characters who are pretty darn close to real people. And their problems are pretty darn close to the problems we all deal with - not saving the Earth from some super-vilain.
This is the kind of movie you simply sit back and enjoy. There are no great revelations, but it is comfortable, like being in a company of good friends, not idiots on steroids.
And speaking of movies that are about people... just off the top of my head, a couple immediately come to mind: Big Night and Un air de famille.
