What do you say about "The Moon in the Gutter"...

I'll try to make it short - if you love serious movies then you must see it... no, it will not make you forget your Bergman, but life is not just all Ingmar... sometimes there is room for Jean-Jacques Beineix.

Make sure you can allocate clean two hours with no big interruptions and make sure you are not restless - this is gourmet food and needs to be savored slowly. While definitely not the Chateaux Margaux 61, this is still a connoisseur delight.

Depardieu proves once again that he is completely at home in any film, but liking him is a trivial undertaking, nothing unexpected there.

What IS a bit unusual, is that Nastassja Kinski actually makes some sense in that film, and she looks like a person in that 1983 film. She began to look more and more like a caricature later.

I suspect Victoria Abril simply tells her agents: "No films without full frontal, guys!" And full frontal she gets, and she seems to so enjoy it that you almost feel bored by the time it is over, and your eys start wondering again.

Those of us who know her by her later roles, perhaps don't realize that she once was a heavy overweight champ - something around 65 kilo's, I'd presume.

Some folks called that movie trash art. I could see why. I would not agree with that.

Some shots are simply behond description - their beauty has to be experienced first hand - that bed reflected in the window is simply mesmerizing, and there are quite a few others.

So it IS pretentious, but it still has enough art in it to make it a memorable night.

Call it a contraversial film if you want - it that's what it take to make you rent it.
