The new Benji was picked up in a shelter in Pass Christian, Ms. in December last year. The new Benji is actually a Female Dog and is gorgous!. Their was a nationwide seach for the new Bengi and of the three they picked..one of the pups did die..leaving only two..which were very capable dogs..but just did not have that sparkle in their eyes. Then they found the Mississippi dog...a stray at a shelter and Joe Camp himself says this new one is every bit as smart as "Higgins" the original deceased "Benji" as is performing at a lightning pace. Last communication was that their is little film on the cutting room floor and the Dog just gets smarter by the day. IF the site were up, I would be happy to link some pictures of the new Dog...but I have several of them now on my computer and will be happy to email them. I have a very similar Dog myself...with the exception mine is a grey one and not brown. They are very intellegent. Having stayed current with Joe Camps "works" weekly and an avid supporter of animal shelters, I miss the site...and wonder "what happened". It was something to keep up with...and some of the pictures and clips were out of this world...the behind the scenes stuff.
I have looked over the script of the new movie in pieces and it will be a good story..not hokey like "benji saves the whales" kind of story. I must admit, the first two Benji movies and especially the original 1974 release were A+ grade releases. At least this one is geared toward a wide audience and not 7 year olds like the releases after the first two.
