Name of a movie?

Can anyone tell me the name of a wonderful black and white French film which takes place during WW II? The movie involves a young Jewish boy, living in Paris, who is somewhat of a rascal. His mother is fearful that his actions will draw the attention of Nazi invaders and result in the entire family sent off to a concentration camp. A French friend offers to have the little kid spend the war in the country with her parents---who are anti-semitic. The little kid is admonished to NEVER let anyone see him bathe and see his "birdie" which would give his Jewish ethnicity/religion away. At any rate, the little boy and the old man develope a close and loving relationship; the movie is a charmer. Another delightful side-story involves a toddler who is always picking his nose. The old man always offers his own nose a a soure of mining, saying, "Want mine? It's bigger!" In the final scene or so, the little tyke is standing next to a calf with his finger in the calf's nose...
Any help identifying the title of this movie would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
FreddyC
