I have adopt the same tactic of this 4 dvdÂ´s long film..I will comment on the first quarter....
The quality of the transfer is bad and poor..poor and bad..the sound track is bone without flesh..I have see it on a Cinerama screen with with a soundtrack that was full meat as far I can remember, and I can, after more than 34 years.
The players are wonderful nothing to envy to the master of this kind of epic, I said the English cinema a la Sir Laurence " Larry " Olivier. Nothing.
The camera is inventive, and what a rest for the eyes, not digital f****** track & tricks!
The text and spirit and underlying seemed sighltly influenced by the communist regim prevaling then..on this Victor or/and Dmitry could tell us more, but I have the feeling that it is so, as a giant shadow is overlooking the making and the taking care of the correctness of the script....
What is wonderful is the way to part some parts of the dialog in French ( if you choose ) and the original Russian language, that gives us the full dimention of the beauty that can have this " slavish " (?) language...
The Russian soul is standing as a companion besides you and it is all about what are the great writers of this country.
Too bad they did at some point choose the communism.
