Hunt for Wajda continues - pulling the elephant's teeth is easier

Next stop - "Ashes" (not to be confused with his Ashes and Diamonds). Made in 1966, and I'll borrow the plot description from the www.imdb.com:

"Set in the time of Napoleon wars, shows how the wars swept over the unfortunate Polish country at the beginning of the XIX-th century. Story revolves around the Polish legion under command of General Dabrowski, who then fought on Napoleon's side with the hopes of Poland's revival."

When I saw it many years ago it created a strong emotional impact in me. From time to time I have looked for it, all without any success.

Today - wow! - I looked at Amazon and there it was!!!, with a warning that made me move: "Only one in stock!". No wonder it was still there, that "only one", I mumbled to myself, as the price of the 2 VHS tape set was $69.95. Then I gulped and ordered.

What a travesty that is - to have hunt like that for works of one of the most significant directors in the world cinema.
