"In Harms Way" & "The Longest Day"...I passed on "Tora,Tora" Bora for these John Wayne films..."In Harms Way" is much more interesting, moving, and all encompassing than any WW2 film and it works. "The Longest Day" is a great spectacle film

"Under Fire" & "Salvador"...two very intense films, while on the same subject are not overlapping in any way. Great acting all around. Nolty really sinks his teeth into his role. Hackman, again is a real gem too, as always. Oliver Stone's "Salvador" expertly captures the frightening confusion of a no-battle-lines war here. I am prejudiced for Stone, as I am always impressed by his ability to throw himself totally into a film subject...and suck you in with him...completely!!!

"Tombstone...the Director's Cut"...I caught a little of it on cable and was impressed by the economy of the acting here, while making this a film with "scope". I dont like many "new" films, especially when they take on subjects that have been undertaken expertly before. Kirk Russell is an actor who loves to push the envelope, and is not afraid to embarass himself. He is always a joy to see, in any project he takes on.

"The Presidio"...this is one of these films that you see on Tv all of the time and when you see a video of it realize the shameless editing they do to compress it for Tv. A shame, for this one is a guilty pleasure, for sure.

"Ghosts of Mars"...another Carpenter guilty pleasure, from the screenwriter who brought you "They Live". I just want want to escape to Mars, ok ? Like the new "Planet of the Apes", I want to suspened all logic and critical faculties and just take it all in...for better or worse.

"Original Classic...Gone in 60 Seconds"...there was a certain appeal, aside from the very slutty Angelina Jole' in the remake. With Jerry Bruckheimer, can one really go completely wrong ? I dont think so. I wanted to see the original too. It was cheap, and a bonus packed DVD, and I love mindless machine films. They are meant to be just accepted.

"All In The Family...The First Season"...couldnt resist this one, mainly for the price, 3DVDs for $19.99 at Circuit City. It's a classic and it's always nice to kick back as go into the time machine.
