hi,
since 'Buena Vista Social Club', i have had an interest in Cuba, and it's musica. Guantanamera is a romantic comedy, with a subplot satirising the communist government. In that regard, this would meet with the approval of Victor. One of the main characters is a minor bureaucrat who tries to play by the rules. There are 2 economies, one based on pesos, the other on dollars. So his money, pesos, are basically useless much of the time.
By our standards it's a bit slow. Even with my poor spanish i could tell the translation was clumsy. But it's a revealing peek into the lives of one of our closest neighbors. I wouldn't kick off a Cuban film festival with this; but i would include it.
