Re: Speaking of Samurai movies......

The Samurai Trilogy mentioned in a previous thread (dir. Hiroshi Inagaki, starring Toshiro Mifune) is a romanticized version of the life of Miyamoto Musashi. This story, along with Chushingura (the 47 Ronin), is probably the most filmed story in Japanese cinema/television. Every few years a serialized TV version of the story pops up on NHK broadcasts. Make no mistake, the man was a formidable predator. You can see it in his watercolor paintings (all of birds of prey) and read it in his "Book of Five Rings". There are also several filmed versions of the life of his chief rival, Sasaki Kojiro. BTW, Kojiro did not die in the duel on Ganryu Island, and Musashi did marry Otsu.
