Simply put - one of those quiet gems that you will probably never forget. Klaus Maria Brandauer is mesmerizing. IstvÃ¡n SzabÃ³, who gave us the Mephisto (need to rent it again) again demonstrates his gentle touch.
Not the greatest masterpiece in itself, perhaps, but combined with an absorbing story and several great actors it makes the grade. Armin Mueller-Stahl is perhaps making too many movies, but who cares? How can anyone forget his Angry Harvest?
Colonel's story is not unique in a grand sense - through the history it repeated itself thousands of times. But every one of those thousands makes an interesting case study - do I hear the name Beria mentioned here? Some made it to the books, films, plays. Some we will never learn about.
So, another story of betrail... so what?...
Nothing, really, just a good movie.
