It was I must admit, the first time I have seen it. What a great
film. The photography,sets,lighting,costumes,cast were all near perfection. I find many of the 30's,40's era films don't hold up well for me. I find the acting in many "classic" films to be dated and come off hokey by modern standards. Not so in this at all. The last 40 seconds on the balcony could have been cut as far as I am concerned and there was an exterior scene around the Crown Jewel display where an unusual shot was done to a slightly jerky rear screen projection. Other than that it was near perfection. What a woman Bergman was,not to mention the young Angela Landsbery.
Anybody else been "surprised" by a classic film they had somehow missed seeing ?
