Bram Stokers' Dracula: Macrovision artifacts?

Just bought the DVD Bram Stokers' Dracula and noticed a strange artifact in the first 15 minutes of a slight instantaneous brightness shift that was annoying. (I have a Technics DVD-A10 straight into a Sony 36XBR400 via component) I tried to look at it in a variety of vid mode changes (via menu on DVD-A10) and then it stopped happening. I either got used to the effect and 'lost' the ability to see the artifact or the flipping around of the vid mode made the player stop reacting to the problem. Just curious if anyone else has this sort of thing happen at all? (I have about 90 DVDs and this was the first that displays this effect)++++++++++++++
Then I also have the same on LD and have to say no wonder LD is dead dead dead... The pale image and poor focus of the LD compared to the DVD is really a shame. (I have a Pioneer Elite S2 LD player by the way, and I USED to think that LD had a FANTASTIC image)
