If you own an HDTV and a Progressive scan DVD player you may be in for a treat sooner than anyone would've expected. Of course it's kind of like Tommy Lee Jones in MIB stating "I guess I'll have to buy the White Album all over again" while demonstrating an alien mini-disc technology. At least with this new technology it's only the software that's affected (i.e., NO blue laser technology requiring new hardware this time around!), and the sell through pricing promises to be highly competitive! The only downside is that collectors may have to do without as many extras or pay for additional discs or barring that lower resolution duplicate sets (i.e., which include the director's/screenwriter's/critic's/gaffer's commentaries, etc.) since the new high bit rate decoding process takes up so much more space. Regardless of all that, if you've had the opportunity to view the detail in higher definition TV broadcasts and films you should be salivating over this possibility!
