"Too many roles can be performed adequately by a zombie and so many of the young actors and actresses have about that much ability."danj, It's like watching a "90210" Marathon, as these faces pass before us, via Tv and DVD.
To me the Male "Personalities" are none better. Matt Damon, Ben Afflect, Ed Norton, Ben Stiller....etc. I can never differentiate between Ben Afflect and Matthew McConnaghy, or whatever his name is...They just coalesce into one amorphous Blob of Nothing. All I remember about U-571 is Harvey Keitel...and The Others.
To see Damon working with real actors and a real script, as he did in "The Rainmaker", made his blandness is mistaken for calculated understatement, and made his weak style even more pronounced. It was a real stretch for him. Dean Stockwell, Roy Schieder, Teresa Wright, Mickey Rourke, Jon Voight, Danny DeVito, even Virginia Madsen's small but plot pivotal role outshown Damon! And he is supposed to be the New Hollywood. He has a long way to go...and he is ahead of the pack here!
