First the DVD is HO-RI-BLE! I just at first glance want to send it back to Amazon, so much I was enraged at this.
OK, Patrick take it easy, forget the picture quality ...the lame sound....
So, what is this film? In my eyes a failure.
The starting point, the idea was quite good, the ressusiting of an old first great war now grandpa in the then modern world war two. Age do not makes one less powerful or less courageous tell us this story, as we didnÂ´t knew! But ok, the curiosity of how to handle this subject in a realistic way keep me awake.
Hela,s it turn out to be more as " a good soldier Schweik* " as some thing else, this film could not really choose his way, to know by his own meaning what it really wants to be, in the end beeing nothing.
The actors are quite fine, one or the other scene is touching ( the one with the absurdity of war when one young man is confronted to the other, now dead )
But nothing is really develloped, and stays in an embryonic stage, missing the deep, the development that would have logically have must followed.
Mission aborded.
* And at that the original film was SO MUCH better!
