Supposedly the first two hours of the film are composed of the untouched pilot that Lynch developed for an ABC series. Consider that the next time you watch it - as I understand it that part of the film is completely suitable for network television. It's not hard to guess where the pilot ends and the "movie" begins (for more of Naomi Watts see '21 Grams'). I personally feel like some of the unexplained sequences that occurred early on in the film (that fellow's dream from the diner, the botched hit) would have been expanded upon in later episodes had the pilot been picked up as a series. Some accuse Lynch of slapping on a nonsensical ending in a fit of self-indulgent laziness. I don't think that that is entirely true but if there is sense to be made of the ending it is beyond my capacity to do so (at least without putting too much energy into it). Regardless, I find it highly entertaining.
