The Ninth Configuration

Saw this last night for the second time, after first seeing it many years ago. Released in 1979, it was both written and directed by William Peter Blatty (based on his novel "Twinkle Twinkle Killer Kane"), who continued to explore the themes of faith and the balance between good and evil in this interesting but flawed film.

Less shocking and more sentimental in its conclusion than THE EXORCIST, it nevertheless packs a good psychological punch if you can accept the basic premise (a new psychiatrist arrives to take over a secret army mental hospital for Viet Nam war vets suffering from post-traumatic stress, but eventually we discover that the psychiatrist is himself a patient and that his "role" in the hospital is an experiment in therapy), and the somewhat inscrutable performance by Stacy Keach in the lead role.

Does anyone else remember this film?
