That pretty well sums it up.And yes, the characters do look like the old Astroboy characters. Very soft.
But I tell ya, the color saturation and dynamic movement are as good as the best anmation out there. It has a VERY unusual big band and jazz score too. It seems very much out of context with the sci-fi story, yet somehow, it works.
