Girl on the Bridge (VHS)

This movie is mysterious, humorous, sad, intense, and sometimes Felliniesque. The soundtrack is a truly eclectic mix which also includes several great Benny Goodman tracks. It is the strange story of an aging knife thrower who recruits his "targets" from the ranks of the forlorn perched on the edge of bridges. Talking them back from the final plunge he convinces them to risk it all as his assistant. Auteuil plays his darkest and most humorous role as the Svengali of blades in this B&W semi-noir filled with hilarious moments. Vanessa Paradis (who could pass for a Brit due to desperately needed orthodontics) is the latest in his long line of semi-tragic recruits who just can't seem to say NO to any man with the exception of Auteuil--the only man she knows who nevers asks!

Interesting, intriguing, worth the time just for the experience. Bought the VHS--seems they are holding off on the DVD.
