The Testament of Dr. Mabuse

Beautiful restoration of Lang's (1933) continuing saga of criminal mastermind, Dr. Mabuse. Most interesting is the fact that Goebels banned the film from ever being shown and it did not appear in German theatres until 1951. Seems Goebels thought the film was taking a pot-shot at der fuhrer since Mabuse was in an asylum constantly writing recipes for criminal acts that would create chaos in society.

The film shows a lot of silent film performance style being carried over to the soundstage which at times seems a tad comical. Worth a view for historical value.
