I think The Empire Strikes Back is pretty good. It's ruined neither by George Lucas (until he updated the special effects and had luke give a "banzai!"-like yell when he jumps in the end--WTF?) nor Jim Henson. It's far and away the darkest, it's the most evenly paced, the most suspenseful, and the strongest on characterization of the lot, IMO. It was the bar I held the prequals to. They, so far, have fallen far short of the worst moments in the originals.
