Al Pacino, John Cusak, Danny Aielio, and Bridgit Fonda star in this 1996 film about how mayoiral politics in New York City is affected by a tragic cop/criminal shootout which ends in the death of both plus the accidental death of a young school boy. Cusak is the idealistic southern born Deputy Mayor and he idolizes Mayor Pacino, who is grooming him and also has presidential aspirations. Brooklyn political boss Aielio is seeking a political favoir from the mayor, but is also involved with a mafia boss, uncle of the slain criminal. It turns out that the criminal was out on a phony probation, and as Cusak and detective union attorney Fonda investigate the plot thickens and some of the major characters seem to be invoolved. There are many great scenes here but the Fonda part seems unecessary and the ending feels like a let down.
