Greatest Movie Lines!

66.74.72.231

Mates,

Last evening, I was trying to make any kind of sense of Mike Myer's "Cat in the Hat". I say Mike Myers' as I think he shapes whatever character there is and I would rather not remember who the director was. And I say 'any kind of sense' as I can't imagine what committee of the Damned wrote and produced this.

But, as I was enjoying the movie that much, I heard a great line, a memorable movie line. Whichever Baldwin it is is driving his fashionable 2001 Thunderbird (well, everyone else is doomed to lime green Ford Foci) and looks over at the passenger seat where his dog has urinated on his lunch. If that is a strange scenario, then what Whichever Baldwin says is strangely wonderful, "I don't know why you pissed on my taco!" Suddenly I absolved the movie as it was I who was missing the deep existential angst of it- so true to the books. And this after I firmly dismissed the whole thing as a sham pastiche of wildly flatulent adolescent demographically contrived waste of time aspiring to Tim Burton.

I have very high expectation when anyone messes with Dr. Suess or A.A. Milne. Or Shakespeare.

Yes, "I don't know why you pissed on my taco!" just encapsulates the difficulty of life in this Cosmos doesn't it?

So this cosmically significant line arises as a precious gem out of shite! This got me to thinking of memorable movie lines generally. I am an anti-intellectual and go from the specific to the general.

How about a couple more:

"If you wanted to be an astronaut, you never shoulda married a stripper!" >"Independence Day"

Bus Driver: "Maybe they do and maybe they don't."
John Warne (Clark Gable): "This is a 'maybe they DO'". >"It Happened One Night"

"You're very talkative.": Comrade Nina Ivanovna Yakushova (Greta Garbo) >"Ninotchka"

Groucho Marx: "If I was standing any closer, I'd be standing in back of you!"

"Hey, don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love." Alvy Singer (Woody Allen) >"Annie Hall"

Thomas Dunson (John Wayne): "I don't like quitters!" SHOOTS TWO HIRED COWBOYS DEAD/ > Red River

"It's because I haven't got a brain."*** Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) >Wizard of Oz

*** With that honesty he will end up in high office.

Dorothy (Judy Garland): [Saw Prof. marvels' Big sign that he performed for all the crowned heads of Europe.] "I want to travel with you and see the crowned heads of Europe"
Professor Marvel (Frank Morgan): "Do you know any?" "Oh,. the thing." >Wizard of Oz

Wicked Witch of the North (Margeret Hamilton): "I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog too!" > W of O

Harold the Blindman (Gene Hackman): "wait! Come back! I was going to make espresso!" > Young Frankenstein

Luna Schlosser (Diane Keaton): "So, what's it like being asleep for two hundred years?"
Miles Monroe (Woody Allen): It's like a weekend in Beverly Hills." >Sleeper

It's late. Off to Beverly Hills!

Cheers,

Bambi B
