I'm not taking a position on King Kong. I'll reserve judgement, although I'm mildly optimistic; here's why:

I agree with you that the original is the signature version and probably shouldn't be remade. However, it already HAS been remade and quite badly; perhaps Peter Jackson's version can set the record straight, removing the tarnish placed on the venerable film by the DeLaurintis debauchery while preserving the luster of the original. No one can take away Willis O'Brien's artistry or replace the quaint images from that bygone era with more modernized CGI, but perhaps Mr. Jackson's respect for the material can build a new audience for the classic original.

I'm willing to give him the chance, even if folks like patrick want to tear this film down before it's even seen.
