Gregory Peck himself said that this was his favorite role and I believe that the Atticus Finch character was voted # 1 fan favorite in a recent poll. I can never get through it without tearing up. Everything about it is SO well done.
There is an anachronism at the beginning which I believe is in the book. It's supposed to be 1932 and FDR hadn't yet uttered his famous line about nothing to fear but fear itself.
The public TV series "I'll Fly Away" was based in part on the Finch's relationsship with their servant Calpurnia.
I just orderd the DVd and hope it will be an improvement over the LD.
