"The Ten Commandments"

Cecille B. DeMille himself introduces this 3 hour 39 minute biblical tale which was filmed in VistaVision. What I noticed this time through was the incredible number of convincing special effects, far more than, say, "Ben Hur" or "Spartacus". Say what you will about this yawner, it remains a virtuosoistic display of Hollywood arts and sciences at the century's mid point. Brynner as the pharoh comes off the best but I have never been able to accept Edward G. Robinson in his role as the Egyptian forced to migrate with the Hebrews. The wide screen laserdisc is a spendid transfer. Dolby Pro Logic II opens up the stereo sound mix.
