J. M. Barrie was Scots...

...and thus spoke with a Scottish accent. Depp's accent in the film was not English, but Scottish. The RL Barrie was indeed preoccupied with these children, and he was so while the Winslet character's huband was still alive. From firsthand accounts, his relationship with them was entirely platonic. But obsessive nonetheless.

If Brits & Aussies can play Americans, I see no reason why Americans cannot essay British characters. Clive Owen, much as I like him, seems as unlike Barrie as one could get, whereas the physically slight, androgynous Mr. Depp, whose charm is legendary, seems a better match for Barrie both physically and temperamentally. (I also assert that Owen CAN act, BTW.)

The movie is mostly twaddle. Beautifully shot and costumed.

Chickflick? Don't insult us chicks. Most of the fans of this mocie that I know are male.
