The kid was terrific, and FNL is easily one of my favorite films of 2004

BBT's performance as Coach Gaines did seem a tad underdeveloped, but I thought it was fine for what it was. The film was really about the 3 players, specifically Mike Winchell, Boobie Miles and Don Billingsly. I picked up the book, and plan to start it this weekend.

The kid who played Boobie Miles was terrific, as well-the scene where he cleans out his locker while exuding (false) bravado and then breaks down in his uncle's car was heartrending.

I can report that the passion for high school football in Texas is exactly as portrayed in the film-I attended college in Abilene in the late 70's/early 80's and went to a number of games at Abilene's Shotwell stadium with several college pals. Saw the Permian Panthers absolutely demolish Abilene High, too.
