Meet the Fockers

I have to say something about the quality of the dvd I got. It was one of those illegal copies that comes out when the movie is still in the theaters.

I got cornered at work. I said to the guy I like originals not these type of copies because of the quality. I said I got this big screen tv and a fancy sound system and I need the good quality of the originals. He said: "try this. You won't be disappointed".

The quality was horrible. For the whole film, the back of some guy's head was on the bottom of the screen. It had a laugh track which surprised me until I quickly realized that that was the movie audience. The guy filming was not holding the camera too steady, and once in while he really shifted around in his chair sending the focus all over the place.

Anyway the film is very interesting in the juxtaposition of the two families. It was like a tug of war of opposites. Imagine Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand as the parents on one side, and Robert De Niro on the other. Robert De Niro has really grown into this character and plays the role superbly. Subtle and clever like "Meet the Parents". I like the sense of humor of the director. A little dry and deadpan if that's the word.

One of the highlights is the cat flushing the dog down the toilet. The dog shouldn't have f***** with the cat. There's a certain edge to quite a few of the characters to suggest "Don't f*** with me.

Really subtle and clever irony abounds and a nice slap at certain kinds of American families.
