The main title which is short but wonderfully done has the quality of the first James Bond, yes! Remember Maurice Binder? It is also reminiscent of " Catch me if you Can " The same period & the same colour.
Mr. Amodovar directed the film as a revenge, revenge to his Catholic education, and it handle it like an adolescent still having trouble with his past.
Scene:
Two priests, the victim a transexual:
-You killed him?
-We had too. No one saw it!
-Yes nobody, save God.
-It does not matter, He is own our side.
How childish, for an immature public, Aldomovar looks for the cheap shot, will people laugh at it?
Yes they did for Mr. Bush hate tirade.
It is well played, and if you are an homosexual you will be happy at the pornographic scenes, the boys been well ...built. But it also well integrated in the story.
Me having no fun at seeing the whole carnal display between, priest and boy, boy and boy, man and transvestite, man and sissy...
You have to go through as it is only the vehicle for this story. In fact the scenario is well constructed, playing with you on three differents level, keeping you for the first half, questioning yourself...Did I missed something? So also on the emotional level.
Well done, even if not the first time I saw this. But what has not been tell or shown since the world is world?
It is a tragedy and there is also this reference to " Double entemnity ".
The actors play is very sensible and a must to see.
For me it is a step backward from " Talk to Her " but not in the technical sense, here being even more refined.
You just have to got use to that the love story is from " man to man " in our little " bourgeois world....
Still it does it not a better film.
And the " end " is not worth the epitaph.
I thought that Aldomovar would reach a new maturity.
He did not.
But where am I to say so?
