Re: Seen 3 to date and they'll be my last, unless he's

(1) Sleepers - A decent performance in a good film. Played an Attorney
(2) Everyone Says I Love You - A decent performance, albeit in a small role, in one of the very few Woody Allen film's I did not care for.
(3) Grind - His first film in which he was the star. A complete turn, played a gritty, sort of anti-"good boy" that he previously played.
(4) Snitch (Monument Avenue) - a relatively small role, again, played a street wise type. Very small film
(5) Without Limits - Did a very good job as Steve Prefontaine. A major departure from his previous roles [he has now played an attorney, a streetwise guy, and a preppy]
(6) The Hi-Lo Country - very good turn as a cowboy opposite Peneloope Cruz in her first American Film. Underrated film. [now add a cowboy to his repotoire].
(7) Jesus' Son - Excellent job as a drug burnout. Completely changed his appearance and personality from The Hi-Lo Country.
(8) Waking the Dead - Very good psychological thriller. Now he is back to playing a yuppie.
(9) Almost Famous - Very good film. Played a rock star. Again, he changed his appearance and personality for a completely different role.
(10) Charlotte Gray - Now he plays a European, and does it pretty well. The film was less than stellar, but he did turned in another good performance.
(11) Big Fish - Another film I enjoyed, though his performance is less dramatic, and more in service to the plot, which is really Albery Finney's film.

I would place Without Limits, Almost Famous, Waking the Dead, Jesus' Son, and Big Fish into the very good/excellent catagory. I would put the Hi-Lo Country, Grind, and Sleepers in the good catagory. He played a true life competitive runner, a yuppie, a rock musician, a burned out druggie, a cowboy, an attorney, and a street hood, all convincingly. He has the looks to play in bigger films, but his career choices seem to be about smaller films, not designed to draw huge audiences.

I cannot identify any of those films in which he preened, or tried to be any bigger than the part he played. In some of these roles, he was downright unattractive, physically and personally. In some of these roles, I had to look hard to see it was really him, for not only did he look different, but also acted different.
