"Birth" - should never have been born....

I know this was discussed at length previously but I just caught it this weekend. I wish I hadn't. This is one of those movies that makes you want to throw something at the screen. I just have to make some comments.

Nichole Kidman - never looked worse (except in Stepford Wives) that haircut and color should have gotten her stylist banned from ever working again. Her acting (if you could call it that) consisted solely of staring off somewhere in every scene that called for some emotion.

That scene in the opera that went on for over 3 minutes? That was about 3 minutes too long. It was uncomfortable to watch. You could have gone and gotten a sandwich during that (and not missed anything). In fact every single shot was held about 50% too long: her husband running at the beginning, and her meeting the kid in the park when she was walking (or rather trotting) down the path), the beach scene at the end.

The kid was probably about the creepiest I've even seen. Too bad it wasn't a horror flick. I don't know how anyone could find anything even remotely loveable in that little twirp. Remember the scene in the ice cream shop where he's licking the spoon? Sure- a grown man would do that! Yeah right. And that bathtube scene- I'm not even going there.

The whole film, the whole premise was so unbeliveable I can't even fathom how anyone would buy any of it. (And I actually believe reincarnation is maybe possible!)

The kid never answered a question with a straight answer. He really didn't provide one shread of evidence he was who he said.

Her fiancee would really still consent to marriage after that behavior? At the least she was mentally unbalanced. I think he would have run screaming!

It's too bad the script was so bad. An interesting film on the subject of reincarnation could have been great.

As it was I don't know how this ever got made- or what happened to Kidman. Between Stepford Wives, Human Stain, Dogville, and this piece of crap it is becoming patently obvious ex-hubby Cruise was picking her roles or something. Of course, I never thought much of her since Dead Calm anyway.

Finally- and worst of all- if the sexes of the charactors had been reversed, this movie would have been rated X or banned completely. Can you imagine a 36 year old guy in the bath with a nude ten year old girl?
