Re: Brenda Blethyn is awesome in "Secrets and Lies"

The plot: Old lady starts selling pot in order to raise money. The film was very pleasant, watchable, and entertaining. Brenda Blethyn is so good because she is, I would imagine, like the regular lady down at the pub, and acts like it. See her in "Little Voice" for a contrasting performance, whereas instead of having a couple of cocktails, she closes the bar down everynight.

But I am not sure how this premised could make a "great" film. Perhaps accept it for what it is, rather that criticize it for what it is not, and probably could not be, given the premise.
