I could kick myself for waiting so long. (I reviewed Criminal a bit ago and found it lacking; I was loathe to see the film upon which it was based).
This is as much a buddy as a caper movie. As such, it must rise of fall because of the actors.
Rent this, if for no other reason, than to see two fantastic leads, especially the older con, Ricardo Darin.
We'd never allow such a non-attractive guy with a lived-in face and unremarkable physique to be a lead: we've become too shallow.
His performance, quite simply, is as good as you'll see this year.
The female in the film, also, wouldn't find a place in today's emaciated, picture-perfect Hollywood. Her performance is amazing, however, and she has got to be the hottest actress on any continent.
The supporting cast also shines. Argentina must have a terrific national theater: these actors can't support themselves on the national film scene...
