Wanted to make a qualified recommendation for The Original Series aired 1959-64 (5 seasons). All episodes were in 30 minute format, except for 4th season, which went to 1 hour format, then switched
back to 30 min format the 5th and final season, due to relative weakness
of 1 hr format (that was province of The Original Outer Limits 1963-64). Rod Serling, was series narrator-host and scriptwriter of 92 of
the 156 episodes; TZ had a number of contributing writers, but
most were written by Serling, Charles Beaumont(21 episodes); Richard
Matheson(16); George Clayton(8) and Earl Hamner Jr (8). Others included Ray Bradbury and Damon Knight. All were accomplished writers. Serling, for instance, before TZ had written for Playhouse 90, Kraft Theater and others, noted for his award-winning "Patterns"
and to-be-movie "Requiem For A Heavyweight". Serling had a
style which you may or may not like, he had a gift for imagination
of the highly fantastic, often in mundane settings with everyday characters. Many TZ episodes had his signature trademark of ironic,
twist endings with strong moral themes, possibly similar to O'Henry. His sense of irony, I believe, came in part from an experience he had as a paratrooper in WWII in Phillipine Islands. TZ was an anthology series, with new characters
each week. Keep in mind that there two sequel TZ series, both without Serling, 1985-89 and 2002-03, have seen neither.
I tentatively recommend "The Twilight Zone: Season 1(The Definitive
Edition) featuring all 36 episodes, depending if this type of program
appeals to you. Syndicated reruns have been very popular in United
States over the years. ~AH
