Chabrol's "Les Biches" (The Bad Girls):

4.254.143.86

like many of his films, it lacks a certain tension. It's hard to analyze "why" this film doesn't make a greater impression on a viewer. Perhaps Stephane Audran is too "cool." It's almost impossible to think of her as an ardent lover. She seems so narcissist that no one else is necessary.
Jean Louis Trintignant (her husband in "real life") couldn't even make their scenes together rise above tepid.
I do wish critics would stop the comparisons to Hitchcock. Chabrol has none of his great skills, absolutely is one-dimensional, and exhibits no sense of humor or irony. In short, Chabrol seems a pompous bore as does the main character in this film.
