Cache: the French Crash.

A far superior film to Crash, with none of the excesses (though I still enjoyed Crash, too). Where Crash uses a sledgehammer, Cache delicately uses a scalpel, exposing the putrid underbelly resulting from French colonialism.
Auteuil is magnificent and the slightly puffy Juliette Binoche is his equal: a long scene of arguing is a master's class in understatement.
The picture, however, belongs to the actor playing the mysterious, long-lost boyhood friend of Auteuil's character. The strength, restraint, and pathos of his portrayal are unforgettable.
This Austrian film by Michael Haneke imparts many disturbing feelings, perhaps most troubling is the sense that none can be trusted to tell "the truth," especially in situations where we would appear less than attractive.
A most disturbing, original, and troubling film.
Don't miss it!
