That stupid, stupid, obnoxious, offensive, totally idiotic dts id (logo? Trailer?) For that idiocy alone, dts, you have deserved your demise...

It has been a long time since I watched any US-made movie an the movie theater (probably not since I saw the Midnight in the garden of good and evil). So while all that digital revolution was happening, I have been sitting quietly in my HT room, well equipped and impressive as it is, watching the VHS tapes (many B&W) most of the time.

Surely, I have my fair share of the "visitor's delights" - stuff you show your guests and then put away. Things like Fifth Element, Lost in Space, Soldier and the one I actually love - Ronin. All those things that my wife refuses to even consider sitting through with me (Well, she made an exception and saw the Ronin. She liked the actress, and so did I, the only difference being that she can admitt that openly and I need to be careful).

My system can play quite loud and I have done so on some occasions, with my wife out shopping - the big subs and all, all that time suffering intolerably from the SC-IV's doing the rear channels duty.

But then again, I forgot when it was the last time I really pushed it.

When we go to see the movies at the Ritz, it is cozy rooms, well-behaved crowds, etc. We are quiet people.

Then we went to see the Eyes...

We picked the matinee when the crowds are the thinnest. We found nice seats and I dug into my popcorn bucket. Then it come...

Like a huge and ugly freight train from nowhere it hit us. There was no warning and no escape - it just came. Played at full volume - whatever the theater was capable of. Itiotic and surely designed to impress the dumb and the dumber and the dumbest.

My wife covered her ears with hands, I almost dropped my popcorn and looked around confused. It lasted for but few seconds and I lost only some of my remaining hairs.

What is the proper name for that idiocy? Trailer? Whatever, I am sure you know what I am talking about. That dts thingy... that flies about you like a wounded bat.

There is no question that *it* reflects the current vision of the movie making industry - all movies are about the 100-year star wars, about morons lost in space, idiots with huge machine guns and flame throwers. Things need to be loud or there is no crowd and no revenue. Sad...

Imagine if My dinner with Andre was done in dts and you had to experience that "freight train" id right before the movie? Wild strawberries?

I don't remember seeing anything in Dolby Digital - is its "trailer" as obnoxious as the dts thing? I don't think it called the attention to itself on any of the DVD's.

It is good thing that the dts is disappearing from our homes. Too bad it is there to stay at the theater near you.
