Though it doesn't come close to the artistic depth of "Tango," the principal actor and the "girl's" performances propel it above the common.
Charles Berling, in one of the greatest performances I've seen, plays a professor of philosophy recently divorced from his ultra-chic wife. He drifts quite self-consciously (after all, this is a French film...), until he hears of a young woman whose much older lover died during love-making that the concierge describes as being "unusual." Being French, he immediately is attracted!
Berling's descent into love-hell is perhaps the greatest ever filmed: it's "Swann in Love" for the 20th century.
