"Whisky:" set in Montivideo, Uruguay.

A solemn brother, who for years has been caring for his ailing mother while he runs a hosiery business, hears his long gone brother, living in Brasil and much more successful with his sock business, will visit to attend the mother's post-burial service.
For unknown reasons, he wishes to appear married so he asks the dour female who is his assistant to pretend they are married for the visit.
Now, if this were Hollywood, we know what would happen.
It doesn't.
What follows is a low-key examination of how responsibility, family, work, and success all can be problematic, especially as they intersect.
The female lead deservedly won several major international "Best Actress" awards for her subtle, sensitive portrayal.
Earlier this week, I watched an excellent, though extremely different film dealing with the
same issues: Denmark's "The Inheritance."
Both films highly are recommended.
The contrasts are what make international films so interesting.
