This is disturbing to the point of true sickness. Not that it is grossly graphic but the ideas are truly abominable yet not out of the question of reality.
Marc Stevens is a small-banana traveling singer/entertainer working weddings and retirement homes in Belgium. After finishing a gig he has a few days before his next and decided (you got it) to take the "back way" to relax. Naturally, Marc's van breaks down on a dark, rainy road and is startled by the appearance of Boris. Poor Boris is in a perpetual state of panic looking for his dog Bella. (Later we see Bella is a calf whom he thinks is a dog.)
Boris leads Marc to a nearly deserted inn where he meets the innkeeper who takes an instant shine to him as a kindred spirit with the innkeeper once being a comedian.
Marc takes a room and is treated royally until he discovers his van has actually been vandalized by the innkeeper. The once escargot-paced film now begins to roll downhill at speed. Marc soon regains consciousness to find himself bound and clothed in the innkeepers ex-wife's dress.
Well, it gets pretty disturbing. Especially when the rescuing villagers arrive and we find the head lout loved the innkeepers wife also.
Marc, played by Laurent Lucas, is one of those Ned Beatty roles where it takes a ton of yarbles to play the part. Maybe not the ideal career vehicle but certainly a challange.
Oddly, this is a 2005 film yet has the film stock look of the 70's.
I really don't recommend it but will say there is nothing to rule out the films events from today's news of the weird.
