I know Daryl Zero posted about this 2 weeks ago but I wanted to bring it back to the top of the list.
Waitress is directed and written by Adrienne Shelley who also acts in it. It was released just following her murder in Manhattan at the end of last year.
It's the bittersweet tale of pie making genius who falls unexpectedly pregnant to her husband and whose imagination takes off paralleling her life with her pie fillings, some of which will make your mouth water.
It's funny (laugh out loud funny) and sad and I thought it was a masterful small film.
It could get classed as a "women's film" and there were far more women in the audience than men when I saw it, but the film is much more universal than that. Unreservedly recommended.
